In addition to the Academy’s own records, covering 250 years of British cultural life, the archive holds papers of the 18th Century Society of Artists and the Graphic Society, an informal Bloomsbury-based society which flourished in the mid-19th Century. The Academy also possesses many important archives of artists’ personal papers dating from 1757 to the late twentieth century.
Enter any search terms you wish in the Search All Fields box. A Name will search for properly identified individuals in the Archives and bring all references to them together in one place. Use the correct Reference Code if you know it and wish to go straight to a specific item. The Archive Title (Fond) is a drop-down list of all of the different institutional and artists’ archives held by the Academy. If you select one from the list you can limit a free text or name search to that archive only. The Date is useful for limiting your search to a particular range of years, year or specific date.
The research library is a specialist resource, open by appointment only, to researchers wishing to consult material not easily available elsewhere.
