David Nash RA (b. 1945)
RA Collection: Art
Crack and Warp Column (Oak) is David Nash's Diploma Work which he gave to the Royal Academy on his election as Royal Academician. The columns are carved when the wood is unseasoned and the cracking and warping happens as the wood shrinks and dries.
The tree from which this sculpture was made was made available to the artist after it had been damaged in a storm.
This sculpture is currently on long term loan to the Quincentenary Library, Jesus College, Cambridge.
