Musician and artist Lonnie Holley brings a special live musical performance to the RA.
“Lonnie Holley’s music is a law unto itself, with the inimitable blues orator free-forming at its core.” Vinyl Factory
Following sold out shows at Kings Place, Café Oto and Stone Nest, Lonnie Holley returns to London for an exclusive performance at the Royal Academy.
The renowned US-based artist will perform a one-off concert at the RA, marking the worldwide launch of his sixth studio album and the opening of the Souls Grown Deep like the Rivers exhibition, which features his own artwork.
With his improvised, lyrical melodies, Holley’s music evolves with every performance and recording. The layers of sounds are the result of decades of creativity and experimentation, making him one of America’s most compelling musicians.
Born in Alabama and raised in the Jim Crow era American South, Lonnie Holley is a visual artist, musician, and filmmaker. His works are held in the collections of numerous museums around the world, including those of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Holley has released five critically acclaimed records. His last full-length album was named one of the best records of the decade by the New Yorker and his forthcoming record, Oh Me Oh My, will be released by Jagjaguwar on 10 March 2023.
