John Martin Gallery, until 31 May 2014
Opening today at John Martin Gallery is an exhibition of the works of ex-RA Schools student Melita Denaro. Denaro’s work, painted from a cliff edge on the Isle of Doagh, off the north coast of Ireland, captures the drama and beauty of the changing weather and scenery. The exhibition includes both studies and finished works of the landscape that has been Denaro’s enduring inspiration for the past 25 years.

Waddington Custot Galleries, until 4 June 2014
The German-American colour theorist and painter Josef Albers is known for his interest in tonal variations and chromatic relationships. Waddington Custot are now showing his experimentations in black and white for the first time in the UK. Working in a variety of media, including photography, works on paper and glass works, Albers explores form and tonal contrasts using simple, geometric designs and abstractions.

If you missed the Academy’s 2012 Hockney, you now have another chance to see the iPad series The Arrival of Spring, depicting the Royal Academician’s home landscape of East Yorkshire alongside five recent charcoal works. Also showing is the experimental Woldgate Wood, shot using nine cameras attached to his car in an attempt to expand the perspective and capture the landscape more accurately.

The Nunnery Gallery, until 13 July 2014
An exhibition of this often-overlooked artist collective goes on show at the Nunnery Gallery in Bow, East London from today. The group rose to prominence in the early 30s and was the subject of much press coverage, counting celebrities such as Aldous Huxley among their supporters. Walter Sickert RA, whose Santa Maria della Salute, Venice is our object of the month, was a member and mentor. From press clippings to paintings and sketchbooks depicting the everyday life of the inter-war period, these works paint a vivid picture of the East London area that captured the imaginations of these artists.

The Design Museum, 14 May - 25 August 2014
Part of the Design Museum’s aim is to expose how integral design is to our lives. This new exhibition, opening next week, focuses on the work of Architect and designer Daniel Weil. The exhibition showcases a variety of Weil’s work, including designs for Swatch and United Airlines, and focuses on the process of design, presenting Weil’s sketchbooks and personal archive for the first time.
