Paint inspiration: David Mach RA

Published 2 May 2014

The artist’s new paint range for the RA draws inspiration from his life and work.

  • From his large-scale and intricate collages to works created from multicoloured match heads, colour plays a key role in the work of David Mach RA.

The Turner Prize-nominated artist is one of three Royal Academicians who have created special interior paint ranges for the RA in partnership with Colour & Paint.

Many of the colours in the range are influenced by his native Scotland - from sea glass collected from the beaches of the Fife coast (home of “the most fabulous light in the country”) to memories of a childhood journey over the Forth Rail Bridge.

In the videos below, David Mach talks in detail about how colour has seeped from his life into his work.
