Peter Fonda established himself as a leading screen actor during the mid-1960s. He acted in a series of increasingly anti-establishment roles in films that saw him subvert his golden boy persona. Fonda’s journey toward counter-culture icon was complete in 1969 when he produced, co-wrote and co-starred in Easy Rider. Along with Fonda, Easy Rider co-starred Dennis Hopper and Jack Nicholson to form a trio of freewheeling, pot-smoking adventurers.

Fonda shared an Academy Award nomination for best screenplay with Hopper, and the film was a surprise commercial success. The film is now a cult classic, and can be viewed as part of Dennis Hopper: The Lost Album at the RA.
