Architect Chris Wilkinson RA and painter Humphrey Ocean RA discuss what it is to draw, and why the process is central to their work.

When we visited him in his practice, Chris Wilkinson recently told us how free-hand drawing remains of huge importance in a profession increasingly dependent on computer technology. “Drawing is a form of communication,” he said. “I think it’s important young architects understand it’s still important – working on computers isn’t enough.”
In this podcast, which is also available below as a video, he talks to Humphrey Ocean – a painter who has had solo exhibitions at the National Portrait Gallery, Tate Liverpool and Whitechapel Gallery – about what it is to draw, and why drawing still matters.
