The Royal Academy’s Collection includes plaster casts of celebrated ancient sculptures. In the early days of the Royal Academy Schools, these casts were an essential resource. Each student would have to hone their skills by drawing from casts, before they were allowed to draw from life models.
As we approach the opening of the New RA, many of these casts have been cleaned and restored to make them ready for display in our new spaces. Here’s how it’s done…
