Historical Background

A committee was formed to honour the memory of Shaw soon after his death. Shaw's friend and patron, Frederick White, chairman of Portland Cement (APCM), acted as honorary treasurer and recordkeeper for the committee, which commissioned a bronze medallion designed by Prof. W.R. Lethaby and executed by Sir Hamo Thornycroft. The tablet was set into the facade of New Scotland Yard.

The remaining balance of the fund was transferred to the Royal Academy in 1915 and added to the capital sum of the Sandby Gift.

Content Description

The records include the collected minutes of meetings, examples of printed circulars and the fund account book. Covering letters provide additional context.
