Hear from the four teams we selected to work up speculative ideas for reimagining the area of Mayfair to the north of the RA.
In April, in partnership with the Architects’ Journal, we launched an open call for architect-led, multidisciplinary teams to put forward ideas for reimagining the area of Mayfair to the north of the RA’s Burlington Gardens buildings. In July, we chose four teams to move forward and work up their ideas. In this event, they present their proposals to the public and an expert panel for the first time.
You will also get a chance to quiz the teams on their ideas.
Teams:
• DK-CM and Pablo Bronstein
• Andrew Phillips, Vogt and Henry Coleman
• EPR Architects with Rick Wheal, Kate Malone and James Ulph (Cork Flowers Gallery)
• Yinka Shonibare MBE RA, Weston Williamson Architects and (uncommon) landscape
Expert Panel: Rory Olcayto (Acting Editor, Architects’ Journal), Jeremy Melvin (curator of the World Architecture Festival), Professor Matthew Carmona (Professor of Planning & Urban Design, The Bartlett) and Craig McWilliam (Executive Director, London estate, Grosvenor Britain & Ireland). Chaired by Charles Saumarez Smith (Secretary and Chief Executive, Royal Academy of Arts).
A pop-up exhibition showing the results of the ‘Reimagining Mayfair’ project will be on display over the weekend of 20 and 21 September (10am–6pm) as part of the RA’s programme for Open House London
