Looking for ways to keep your kids interested this summer? Why not try a visit to the Summer Exhibition, a perfect opportunity to introduce children to art.

The Summer Exhibition is a glorious jumble of some of the most exciting art being made right now. From sculptures to paintings, drawings, prints and photographs, there is so much to absorb, and everyone can find something they love! Here at the RA we run a fun-filled programme of workshops, activities and events for families, and don’t forget, kids under 16 visit our exhibitions for free!
Book now for our special family workshops that run on Wednesdays and Fridays during the Summer Exhibition. These include an interactive tour of the galleries led by our friendly artist-educators, and a creative session where you can master the techniques used by artists in the show.

Alternatively, why not come along to one of our free drop-in workshops? Held once a month on Sundays, Family Studios are a wonderful opportunity for you and your children to experiment with making art. Each month’s workshop has an exciting theme – coming up next month, grab your cape for a fantastic superhero themed workshop.

If you’d prefer to tackle the Summer Exhibition at your own speed, we offer free Art Detective guides, packed with activities, word games and facts, perfect for families to explore exhibitions together. You can download these from our website before your visit, or just pick one up from the ticket desk on your way in. Or, if the galleries seem overwhelming (and no wonder, there are over 1000 works of art on display), we also offer free family tours of the exhibition on Sundays at 2.30pm throughout July. Led by our knowledgeable and friendly guides, these tours are a great way to get to grips with contemporary art.

We also want you to get creative, every year at the Summer Exhibition we provide free activity art trays for kids, providing them with materials to make their own masterpieces. Look out too for your free sketchbook and pencils to take home. Art trays can be requested from the information desk in the front hall of Burlington House.
The Summer Exhibition is in the Main Galleries at the RA until 17 August 2014.. Before you come along, why not take a look at our behind-the-scenes videos to discover more about what you’ll see?
