This drawing depicts a small boat with figures in it sailing on a choppy sea with a larger ship with sails in the background.
The work was previously listed as being a study by Turner for his painting, Ships Bearing up for Anchorage ('The Egremont Seapiece') (Tate T03868), but this is not particularly convincing.
The drawing was bequeathed to the Royal Academy by Carel Weight RA.
