Last weekend saw a ‘groovy’ Late event at the RA, in collaboration with University of the Arts London, inspired by ‘Dennis Hopper: The Lost Album’.

For the past four months, UAL students have been dreaming up activities and performances to bring the 1960s to life for our special Late event. Last weekend they took over Burlington Gardens to stage a Dennis Hopper-inspired, Swinging Sixties extravaganza. UAL comprises six university arts colleges and this was a great way for the students to share some of their ideas and projects with a public audience.
Activities on the night ranged from the politically minded protest banner workshop and ‘Nailing Transphobia’ pop-up nail salon, to a roaming ‘scent station’ and a psychedelic liquid light show. Donning their finest monochrome prints, 700 visitors descended on the galleries of Burlington Gardens, where they danced the night away to our 1960s live bands, and enjoyed an American-themed menu of mac‘n‘cheese, hot dogs and rum shakes, courtesy of Atelier.

Our next Late event is inspired by our Giovanni Battista Moroni exhibition. A Renaissance Christmas at the RA takes places on 29 November 2014 and will include candlelit performances from a Renaissance choir, roaming minstrels, dance performances and more.
