Participants on the course come from all over the world and from all walks of life. As a result, they benefit from a diverse range of perspectives and develop a global perspective of the topics the MA covers.
Most MA students have been working at managerial level either within or outside of the art world before they join the programme. They are bound by a strong interest in the arts and the creative industries. They are seeking to deepen their understanding of he mechanisms and culture of these industries as well as to tailor their business, management, and leadership skills to these sectors.
During the programme they develop a strong peer-to-peer network thanks to small-group learning experiences, both in and outside the classroom, where cutting-edge conversations shaping the future of the arts and culture industries take place.
Michael, EMCL graduate
Emily joined the course from a background in the creative industries, working at an international level.
“Having an inventive approach and idiosyncratic style has been useful to me in the creative industries” Emily says, “but I wanted to increase my confidence as a strategic leader in more recognised ways”.
Emily took advantage of the opportunity to convert the Executive Master’s into an MBA: “ I had considered an MBA in the past, but the cultural leadership accent sealed the deal for me.”
Graduating from the London School of Economics, Michael worked as an accountant at a FTSE250 company. His keen interest in art and the art world drew him to the course: “I wanted to expand my horizon and learn what I didn’t know about art and art industry”.
Michael’s favourite memory from the Executive Master’s was the study trip to Venice: “The quality of the art critiques we received was just unimaginable. It was one of the defining moments when I became more confident on giving opinions on arts.”
For Joao the course was “a unique opportunity to learn from London’s ultimate cultural leaders”. Joao was impressed by the way the programme addresses “urgent global citizenship issues such as digital inclusion, global/local dynamics and the recoding of the cultural aspects of every day life”.
A graduate of the Executive Master’s, Joao runs an art advisory business based in Sāo Paulo.
