<section><h2><h2><strong>Which artist are you? </strong></h2></h2><p>We've filled our galleries with the work of four female pioneers of Modernism. Find out which one of these trailblazing women you have most in common with...</p></section><section><h2><h1><strong>You are... Paula Modherson-Becker</strong></h1></h2><p><p>Congratulations! Paula Modherson-Becker was a pioneering artist who challenged the eroticisation and idealisation of the female form in masculine art. Her most radical step was to use her own body for her nudes, including painting herself as pregnant, becoming the first artist to create such a painting. </p><p>Modherson-Becker forged her own path as an artist and refused to be tied down by the traditional role of wife – she repeatedly left her husband in rural Germany to travel to the artistic hub of Paris. </p><p>Despite her short life (Modherson-Becker died after complications from childbirth aged 36), she was an incredibly prolific painter – in 15 years she created 700 paintings. </p><p>Discover Modherson-Becker's work in our new exhibition <em>Making Modernism.</em></p></p></section><section><h3><h1><strong>You are... Marianne Werefkin</strong></h1></h3><p><p>Congratulations! You are artist Marianne Werefkin. </p><p>A dynamic influence in artistic circles, the Russian-born painter devised a haunting idiosyncratic style of her own.</p><p>Werefkin’s paintings display her fascination with the full range of human experience: her work is united by a distinctive attention to moods, emotions and the movement of the human body, whether contorted in suffering or driven by the fervour of performance.</p><p>In the 1880s while she was training to be an artist, Werefkin's teacher was convinced she was as talented as Rembrandt and destined to be a great painter. But after falling in love with another student, Werefkin's artist career was put on hold for ten years as she supported her husband. Werefkin was socialable and popular, hosting salons with an arty crowd including Gabriele Münter and Wassily Kandinsky. She took up painting again and produced many Modernist masterpieces which you can see in our exhibition <em>Making Modernism. </em></p></p></section><section><h3><h2></h2><h1>You are... Gabriele Münter</h1></h3><p><p>Congratulations! You are German Expressionist painter Gabriele Münter. </p><p>Münter is best-known today for her colourful, dynamic landscapes, as well as her insightful portraits of her friends and lovers including Wassily Kandisnksy. Still life was a genre central to her practice that she continually reinvented in ambiguous and intriguing works which range in tone from the joyful to the menacing, often with spiritual overtones. </p><p>Discover her story in our exhibition <em>Making Modernism.</em></p></p></section><section><h3><h2></h2><h1>You are... Käthe Kollwitz</h1></h3><p><p>Congratulations!
