An evening with Renzo Piano Hon RA, reflecting on his extraordinary contribution to architecture over the past 50 years.
From New York’s Whitney Museum to the Pompidou Centre in Paris, the buildings of Renzo Piano have used form, materiality and engineering to achieve a precise and yet poetic elegance. While his buildings demonstrate a joyful creativity and mastery of craft, they also show a deep understanding and appreciation of technology and technique. For Piano, each new building is like “life starting all over again”, and each one reflects his unwavering interest in social purpose, lightweight structures and adaptability.
In celebration of the exhibition Renzo Piano: The Art of Making Buildings, which opens at the RA this autumn, Piano joins us to reflect on his career. Take advantage of this rare opportunity to hear the architect discuss his work, philosophy and life.
Piano will be in conversation with BBC news presenter Razia Iqbal, who is currently one of the main presenters of Newshour and also regularly presents The World Tonight on Radio 4. In 2017, Iqbal was awarded a RIBA Honorary Fellowship for her work on Dream Builders, a series interviewing leading architects including the late Zaha Hadid RA, Norman Foster RA, Richard Rogers RA and David Adjaye RA.
